Arcadia Winds will make its debut this December 1 at the Melbourne Recital Centre’s Spotlight Series with guest artist Peter de Jager.
Arcadia Winds was formed in 2013 by five young Australian musicians who shared a love of playing together and a passion for wind chamber music. Kiran Phatak, David Reichelt, Lloyd Van’t Hoff, Matthew Kneale and Rachel Shaw came together at the Australian National Academy of Music, where they embarked on a musical mission they pursue to this day. This mission is founded on a commitment to energetic, joyful and spontaneous performances, Australian music played by Australian musicians, and making music accessible to all.
The Arcadia Winds has performed in competitions, festivals, collaborations, commissions, teaching, composition, curation, and concerts all across the country. In 2015, Arcadia was chosen as the inaugural Musica Viva Australia FutureMakers, which launched the quintet to a plethora of exciting activities in 2016 and 2017.
Arcadia Winds is excited to present this concert with its colleague, pianist and composer Peter de Jager.
Brett Dean’s Polysomnography for wind quintet and piano is an epic journey through the composer’s dreamland. This will be complemented by the world premiere of a newly composed work entitled Disintegration by Peter de Jager for the same combination. Francis Poulenc’s Trio for Oboe, Bassoon and Piano and Guillaume Connesson’s Techno Parade for Flute, Clarinet and Piano round out what promises to be a spectacular evening of music.
