Call for singers – Boîte Millennium Chorus

Join a 300+ voice choir

The Boîte Millennium Chorus is 300 voices rising in song with international musicians who now call Australia home.

Conceived in 1999 as a major celebration ushering in the new millennium, the Boîte Millennium Chorus is now in its 19th season, and 20th concert. The project has achieved the acclaim of audiences and critics alike and has created live recordings with broad appeal. It involves the creation of a 300-400 voice choir of community singers from across Victoria, brought together for 10 weeks of rehearsals each year.

It incorporates exciting songs and themes reflecting Australia’s cultural diversity and culminates in a concert, this year at Plenary, Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to an audience of about 2,000.

As with the 10th concert, this will be a retrospective of the last decade of Millennium Chorus concerts. There are songs about the joys of life, the journey of migration, of people fleeing poverty, songs of the land that nurtures us, and of cultural exchange and a life renewed, by songwriters such as Gurumul Yunupingu, Geoffrey Williams, Lamine Sonko. The late Melanie Shanahan, Millennium’s first choir director (1999 and 2000) will be recognised through her song Walk With Me.
