Duo Vela: Across the Seas Tour

Presented with the Melbourne Guitar Foundation

Daniel Nistico (guitar) returns to his homeland Australia to perform with flautist Marla Nistico for their Across the Seas Tour.

The two musos are known as Duo Vela, and base their ensemble in New York. Together they specialise in presenting works which transcend cultural borders. If you’re in Melbourne this month, listen out for their performances of compositions by Phillip Houghton, Mario Castlenuovo-Tedesco, Debussy, Agustin Barrios, and Piazzola.

Duo Vela will perform at the following venues in Melbourne before heading over the seas again to a tour of New Zealand in August:

St. Mary’s Church North Melbourne, 7pm July 23 (presented by the Melbourne Guitar Foundation)

Camberwell Uniting Church, 2.30pm July 24

Melba Hall Lunch Hour Concert, 1.10pm July 25

Monash University, 1pm July 28.

About Duo Vela:

Marla Nistico is an American classical flautist who enjoys a career of performing and teaching. Marla recently graduated from the Eastman School of Music with a Master’s in Performance and Literature, studying under Bonita Boyd. Marla is currently the Adjunct Flute Instructor at the State University of New York at Oswego. Marla has performed in masterclasses for Andras Blau and Marina Piccinini, and has shared the stage with Edgar Meyer and Joshua Bell.

Australian-born guitarist Daniel Nistico has performed across the world and won international prizes, establishing himself as a guitarist of high calibre. Daniel is completing a Doctor of Musical Arts at the Eastman School of Music, where he studies with both Nicholas Goluses and Paul O’Dette. In 2015, Daniel was the first guitarist in the school’s history to be nominated for an Artist Certificate.
