Ensemble Three presents new music in Australian Electric

Exclusive offer for CutCommon subscribers

Joel Brennan (trumpet), Don Immel (trombone), and Ken Murray (guitar), form Australian ensemble Three, and they’re set to perform at the Melbourne Recital Centre this month.

Three’s concert Australian Electric features works written for the group that incorporate live and pre-recorded sounds.

“We’re looking forward to this performance because we’re premiering two fantastic new pieces alongside two of our favourite ‘electric’ works,” Three’s Joel says.

“The repertoire on this program is a glimpse at the state of new music in Australia today, its reach and its influences. We’ll premiere Voodoo Sonnets by James Ledger, whose interesting compositional output includes works for the Melbourne Symphony, the Australian String Quartet, and Paul Kelly. We’ll also be premiering Wally Gunn’s energetic Pinwheel. Wally is an Aussie composer who has been living and making music in NY for years.

“Fay Wang is a Chinese composer who is also NY-based, and her Steps into the Unconsciousness is a wild, trippy piece that we love to perform. The program is rounded off by Ken Murray’s Sketches, which incorporates some Australian folk elements in unique ways.

“We’re really excited about the repertoire, which will be on our second album, to be released this year. But this concert is also our first feature performance in the beautiful Melbourne Recital Centre Salon. It is going to be a great time, and we hope to see many CutCommon subscribers there!”
