Entries are now open for the 2019 Arcadia Winds Composition Prize. Australians aged 18-35 may submit a newly composed work for wind quintet of between 6-9 minutes in length, and will be in the running to win a suite of prizes.

The winner of the Arcadia Winds Composition Prize will receive $1,500 in prize money, along with a host of career development opportunities. They will be provided flights to and from Melbourne for a workshop with Arcadia Winds on 8 October, and their winning work will receive its world premiere by the Arcadia Winds at the Melbourne Recital Centre on 9 October, and be featured on Arcadia Winds’ new digital streaming site WindStreams. There will also be a second prize of $500 awarded.

Following on from the success of the 2018 competition, the Arcadia Winds Composition Prize aims to support and encourage young Australian composers to write for the wind quintet, and wind instruments. Through its focus on composer training and exposure as well as a monetary prize, it aims to raise awareness of the joys of wind music, and to further develop the canon of works available for Australian wind instrumentalists. It is generously supported by Barry and Joan Miskin.

Visit the Arcadia Winds website for more information and applications. Entries close 23 August.
