AYO’s Momentum Ensemble will join forces with Choir of St James’ for a unique program of choral, wind and brass repertoire at St James’ Church on Saturday 2 December.
Conductor Warren Trevelyan-Jones will lead this exciting concert of rarely performed repertoire including Ottorino Respighi’s Lauda Per La Nativita del Signore and Anton Bruckner’s Mass No.2 in E minor.
The unusual combination of brass and woodwind within these pieces has kept them from being widely celebrated and performed. But within the stunning acoustic of St James’ Church, these instruments will come together with the human voice to dramatic effect.
Momentum Ensemble are a dynamic group of performers powered by the Australian Youth Orchestra. Bringing together the best young adult musicians in the country, Momentum Ensemble specialises in new interpretations and unconventional works and performs in venues that transcend the boundaries of the traditional recital hall. Comprised of the freshest talent in professional orchestras around the world today, this hand-picked ensemble is not to be missed.
Warren Trevelyan-Jones was appointed Head of Music at St James’ Church in 2008 and is regarded as one of the leading choral conductors and choir trainers in Australia. Warren has been Chorus Director of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since September 2017. In recent months, Warren directed NYCA (the National Youth Choir of Australia) and the first IGSA (Independent Girls’ Schools Association) Choral Festival. Choir of St James’ regularly collaborates with international groups such as The Tallis Scholars, The King’s Singers and soloists Yvonne Kenny, Greta Bradman and Teddy Tahu Rhodes.
