Melbourne world music duo Bohemian Nights will perform a special concert at Hobart Synagogue, featuring songs and tunes from their Klezmer and other Jewish repertoire, as well as Gypsy and European music.
Bohemian Nights is in Tasmania to perform for the fourth time at the Cygnet Folk Festival.
The duo’s sold-out 2015 concert for the Hobart Synagogue was held at Mathers Hall, so you’re advised to book early for the 2019 event!
Violinist Ernie Gruner is Australia’s leading klezmer violinist, and has performed Sephardic Jewish with Saray Iluminado at the Hobart Synagogue for two previous booked-out concerts, and at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
Ernie and accordionist/singer Phil Carroll have performed together for close to 25 years in world music, theatre, and dance events.

About the duo
Ernie Gruner (violin, mandolin, vocals) and Phil Carroll (vocals, accordion, kaval) play Klezmer, Gypsy, French, Italian, Russian, jazz, and tango music ranging from soulful to wild. They’ve both played and recorded together in bands including Klezmeritis & Yalla! (seen on ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks).
They’ve studied overseas in Cracow, Budapest, Montreal, Istanbul, and New York. Australian concerts highlights include several national folk festivals, the National Multicultural Festival, tours around regional Victoria, and Western Australia.
Phil and Ernie’s seven New Zealand tours included the Wellington and Dunedin Folk Festivals, and the Christchurch Jazz Festival, Spiegeltent.
Ernie and Phil have performed together for 22 years with music, theatre, and dance events for Jewish, Russian, Armenian, Turkish, French and Italian and other productions and communities, as well as many parties and chuppahs and weddings. They have recorded two albums.
