EVENTS // KPO presents Classical Masterpieces

CONTENT COURTESY KPO

The KPO presents two beautiful concerts in which you will be immersed in some of the finest music from the classical and baroque eras. A suite of orchestral music from Rameau’s tragedie-opera Dardanus opens the concert in elegant French Baroque style, with lively dance movements and stately interludes.

This concert also presents the opportunity to hear some of the KPO wind players perform Beethoven’s Wind Sextet in Eb major. Scored for two clarinets, two horns and two bassoons, this charming chamber music work in four movements will delight all with its attractive tunefulness.

The KPO is delighted to welcome back Shefali Pryor, associate principal oboe with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, to perform Mozart’s Oboe Concerto in C Major. Composed in 1777 this light and engaging work contrasts light, agile outer movements with beautiful elegiac melodies in the slow movement.

Beethoven’s noble, yet energetic Second Symphony concludes the concert. Written in 1802 at the time when Beethoven was becoming severely afflicted by deafness, this symphony is a proud work which nonetheless shows considerable playfulness in the scherzo and very lively Finale.

Join the KPO at St Ives Uniting Church for either a Saturday evening concert or a musical Sunday afternoon.
