CONTENT COURTESY MSO
The MSO will team up with the young stars of the Australian music scene when they present the West Side Story suite, and more in this June 2 event. This performance, in celebration of what would have been Leonard Bernstein’s 100th birthday, is the ideal way for families to discover the best in classical repertoire, with young artists side-by-side with the MSO.
Led by MSO Cybec Assistant Conductor, Tianyi Lu, and featuring students from Melbourne University’s Master of Music (Orchestral Performance) and the Melbourne Youth Orchestras, this program features the latest commission from MSO’s Cybec Young Composer in Residence, Ade Vincent, and Elgar’s Cello Concerto, performed by rising Australian star cellist, Eliza Sdraulig.
This evening of toe-tapping music will begin, and end with two of Leonard Bernstein’s most famous works, guaranteed to have you dancing in your seat. Candide, full of humour, and of course, pieces from the ever-popular West Side Story to conclude.
