CONTENT COURTESY AUSTRALIAN YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Celebrating the first 20 years of a new century, the finest young musicians from around Australia will combine their powerful energy and brilliance under the leadership of Benjamin Northey. Their repertoire includes Elena Kats-Chernin’s Heaven is Closed, written for the year 2000 celebrations; and the moving first symphony of Sibelius, composed at the turn of the 19th Century.
Dvořák’s Cello Concerto has continuously captured the hearts of audiences since its premiere in 1896, and is one of the most performed concertos in the cello repertoire. Joining the Australian Youth Orchestra to perform the work is renowned Australian cellist Pei-Sian Ng – himself a former member of the Australian Youth Orchestra 20 years ago. Now Principal Cellist with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and a regular soloist in many countries, his performances of this concerto have received widespread acclaim.
Don’t miss AYO’s return to Victoria in 2020 with what promises to be an unforgettable season of orchestral music making.
