What else are we up to, anyway?
- We distribute new Australian music. We’re also proud to showcase talent in our Digital Music Store, exclusively featuring new scores and recordings by emerging composers in Australia.
- We make environmentally conscious music supplies. You can see our own range of manuscript booklets made with eco-friendly paper and ink here.
- CutCommon launched Australia’s first street press publication for classical music. Issue #1 went to print in 2018 (after our digital magazine emerged in 2014). Our inaugural print mag is distributed as part of a roving launch to more than 50 universities, live performance events, and arts offices across the country. Issue #2 went to print in 2019. We’ve distributed more than 5000 copies of our print magazine across Australia. Issue #3 was published digitally in 2020 during the pandemic.
- We also launched Australia’s first video arts criticism in 2018. We wanted to reshape the way classical music and live arts events are covered – so we decided to bring you our (Literally) Live Review series from members of our team filming – not writing – their reviews.
- CutCommon launched Australia’s first Pay What You Like system for arts journalism in 2018. CutCommon is facilitated by a team of volunteers, and we also didn’t want to put up a paywall that would stop you from accessing our stories. That’s why we give you the option to read a story and pay whatever you like for the piece, acknowledging our team’s commitment to showcasing the artists and ensembles within Australia’s vibrant artistic landscape.
In 2017, CutCommon joined leading Australian cultural institutions to become a member of the Arts Wellbeing Collective. Our publication supports mental health and wellbeing for workers in our nation’s arts industry by generating positive discussion, and sharing insights from professionals and individuals.
