Rachelle Durkin teams up with Voyces

Once-off Perth concert

BY KATIE MILLER-CRISPE

Champion of contemporary choral music Voyces will be joined in Perth this Saturday by renowned Australian soprano Rachelle Durkin for upcoming concert Tundra.

Rachelle, who recently performed with Opera Australia, the Metropolitan Opera in New York and West Australian Opera, will perform a selection of song cycles with Voyces for the program.

Tundra is a celebration of contemporary Scandinavian and Canadian composers and folk-inspired melodies and is set to transport audience members to the farthest northern reaches of the world.

Choral music has a tendency to be pigeonholed into the religious sphere, but Voyces has advocated for the performance and development of contemporary secular choral music since the organisation’s inception in 2012. Voyces has contributed to the Australian musical landscape through commissioning and premiering new works and showcasing Australian composers and performers.

Tundra is Voyces’ penultimate concert for the year. It gives listeners the opportunity to experience world class music in an intimate and accessible space, without breaking the bank.

16 September, 7.30pm

Trinity Uniting Church, 72 St Georges Terrace, Perth

Bookings $40/$25/$10 via the Voyces website.
