Our second print edition is about to make its way across Australia! As we prepare, we bring you our showcase of talented emerging arts journalists who have come together to share some incredible stories about the new generation of composers, performers, and arts administrators.
Jasmine Middleton is a freelance violinist, writer, and tutor from Perth. She studies Honours in Music Performance at the University of Western Australia Conservatorium of Music. In 2017, she was awarded the Edith Cowan Prize in Music (for being the top third-year music student), the University Choral Society Prize, and the Wesley Uniting Church Music Scholarship. She also won the prestigious Flora Bunnings Memorial Prize for Chamber Music in 2017 and 2018.
As a chamber and orchestral musician, Jasmine performs regularly in string quartets around Perth and is concertmaster of the UWA Symphony Orchestra and Perth Orchestra Project. She has also led the Western Australian Charity Orchestra, performed in the Chamber Orchestra of St George’s College, the West Australian Youth Orchestra, and participated in numerous Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camps.
Jasmine’s research interests lie in discovering new, unique ways to perform well-known pieces. Jasmine loves combining her two passions of music and writing to explore the innovative ways that Australian musicians are interacting with classical music, also working as a violin and English tutor. On the rare chance she has spare time, she enjoys reading, going to concerts, playing board games, and having coffee with friends.
