MEET THE TALENT BRINGING YOU ISSUE #2

Our second print edition is about to make its way across Australia! As we prepare, we bring you our showcase of talented emerging arts journalists who have come together to share some incredible stories about the new generation of composers, performers, and arts administrators.

Lily Bryant is a Canberra flautist, studying under the guidance of Virginia Taylor at Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University. Lily started playing the flute at age 10 in her school band, and has continued to love it ever since. Her passion for music led her to the Australian National University School of Music’s prestigious undergraduate program for high school-level students. There, she had the opportunities to perform in venues such as Parliament House Great Hall, the Hungarian Embassy, and for the Governor General at Government House. She graduated the program with High Distinction.

In 2016, Lily participated in Australian Youth Orchestra National Music Camp. Later that year, she made her concerto debut performing Chaminade’s Concertino with the Canberra Youth Orchestra, achieved her A.Mus with Distinction, and successfully auditioned at Queensland Conservatorium. Since enrolling at the conservatorium, Lily has been a finalist in the Australian Flute Festival Young Artist Competition, co-founded Anemoi Wind Quintet, and held multiple principal positions in the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra.

This year, Lily performed in the premiere of Paul Dean’s new landmark opera Dry River Run, and participated in a mammoth performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 under the baton of maestro Johannes Fritzsch. She also started writing for CutCommon, marrying dual passions of writing and music.

Lily participated once again in AYO National Music Camp this year, and looks forward to continuing to craft stories about awesome Australian music, and finally convincing Brisbanites that Canberra isn’t boring.
